Caring for your new baby is a full time twenty four hour job and it is fabulous to have the support and assistance of your partner and extended family during the early days. Adjusting to your new role can be physically, emotionally and psychologically demanding. Taking care of your own health needs and seeking assistance early is the key to getting through those first weeks and months of motherhood.

POST NATAL ACUPUNCTURE CARE

According to Chinese Medicine theory both pregnancy and childbirth can deplete your qi (energy) and blood and weaken the spleen and kidney and exhaust your essential jing (essence). The first month is the most crucial time for mother and baby and extra care is required to avoid becoming depleted. Any depletion can lead to weakness which can sow the seeds for illnesses (degenerative diseases) to develop either in the first year of motherhood or sometime in the future. The use of mother warming and post natal acupuncture tonification treatment will help you to replenish your qi and blood and avoid weakness setting in.

 

MOTHER WARMING AND POST NATAL ACUPUNCTURE TONIFICATION

Mother warming is a moxa technique used to boost energy and promote recovery after labour. It is an excellent one off treatment, usually performed on day 4-5 following birth either at home or in clinic. We can show your partner how to perform this treatment or you can come into clinic for this treatment. A follow up clinic visit between day 10-14 following birth for acupuncture and moxibustion will really help boost your body’s ability to build good quality qi and blood. This will help reduce anxiety and improve mood and sleep.

A weekly treatment for a couple of weeks in that first month really supports recovery from pregnancy and birth and in the long term benefits your physical, emotional and psychological well-being.
