Pregnancy and Birth

At Naissance Natural Health we want your pregnancy to be a joyous journey to motherhood. It is a busy time from that moment of fertilization as the embryo grows and changes so rapidly it can leave you feeling quite exhausted in those first weeks.

We can support you with these changes in very practical ways, whether it is advice and education during your trimesters or the treatment of any pregnancy related conditions that arise. Seeking treatment promptly for any of these pregnancy related conditions means that they can be treated quickly, safely, and effectively with acupuncture and/or naturopathic treatment.

We provide nutritional advice and the appropriate supplements for you and your growing foetus during pregnancy.

BIRTH PREPARATION

As you approach the last weeks before your due date we like to begin preparation for childbirth using acupuncture or herbal medicine.

The aim of prebirth care, whether it is acupuncture or a herbal partus preparator is to promote a natural labour and prepare you to have the most efficient and effective birth possible. Debra Betts, author of ‘The Essential Guide to Acupuncture in Pregnancy and Childbirth’ cited a study where first time birthing women who received  routine prebirth acupuncture treatment had a mean duration of labour of 6 hrs and 36 min as opposed to the non acupuncture group of 8 hrs and 2 minutes. Midwives have reported back to her that prebirth acupuncture preparation has other positive effects including a reduced intervention rate.

ACUPUNCTURE: Prebirth acupuncture comprises of weekly treatments for four sessions from 36 weeks. This also provides an opportunity to treat any other pregnancy related issues.

HERBAL MEDICINE: We may formulate a herbal preparation for you to ensure good uterine tone, to soften the cervix and support your nervous system as you approach those final weeks of pregnancy.
